As an update to the above story, I found out my young friend was Varka from Zambia, who can neither speak nor hear, and who was here on pilgrimage with his mother and sister (they use sign language to communicate with him).

hey Lessan,
I’m checking your blog again after a long time and I’m so glad I did. It’s really exciting to hear what you’ve been doing and I’m inspired to give it a shot. I just printed out the worksheet and look forward to getting started right away.
As I’m nursing the baby and won’t be able to physically fast this year I’m thrilled to have this to work on and feel connected to the fast.

I don’t know where i got the idea that we have to bring ourselves to account in the evening, before going to sleep. And for most of us (especially sleep deprived mamas) bedtime is when you crash, when you can barely remember what you had for dinner, let alone the horrors of the day. So doing it in the morning when a few more brain cells might be functional (hopefully) is far more practical. Thanks bro!

My boyfriend is from Bamenda, Cameroon.I have been searching for data and pictures of this place coz I want to see the place where he lived, where he grew up.I was really lucky to stumble on your pics, thank u very much.Now I can’t wait to tell him how I love his place. Its really beautiful.And I hope I will have the chance to visit Cameroon someday.

This place is frozen in time is so many ways, i can’t believe how little has changed, as i remember it from my childhood. Wow!
I spent the first 3 years of my life in that house, and until today, i could remember hazy scenes from that time, but it’s all coming back now, and so much more beautiful than i recall.
Thank you lessan joon, for making and sharing this historical journey.

Thank you for sharing. It reminds me of how beautiful Cameroon was. I was there from JAn-Jun 1970. And it rained, but it was beautiful. And the mountains… are so lovely. And the cloud filled sky.

lessan joon, this has been the best few minutes of my entire week, month, year! the pictures (and your accompanying stories) are AMAZING. So many memories are coming back to me …. seeing our old home again … the match box, the ugly mud … LOVE IT !!!
